Maternity Quality Matters Award
Childbirth Connection established the Maternity Quality Matters Award to recognize programs that have achieved demonstrated, significant improvement in the quality of care provided to childbearing women and newborns. At its 90th anniversary symposium, Transforming Maternity Care, in Washington DC on April 3, 2009, Childbirth Connection's Executive Director, Maureen Corry, presented the inaugural Maternity Quality Matters Award to Seton Family of Hospitals. Dr. Frank Mazza, Chief Patient Safety Officer and Associate Chief Medical Officer, accepted the award. The Seton program used innovation in maternity care systems design and service delivery to improve practice and outcomes. Seton Family of Hospitals was selected from a competitive field of 35 applicants. Eligible entities included professional organizations or associations, national and community health systems, hospitals and birth centers, public agencies, quality improvement organizations, and research or consulting organizations. The judges, members of the symposium Steering Committee, rated applicants on the following criteria:
